"J-Turn"

The 180 degree turn, most commonly known as "J-turn", is a maneuver that is used to change the vehicles direction without doing a U-turn or a 3 point turn.

How to Preform

1. First up, you want to have your vehicle in the reverse gear, facing in the opposite direction that you want to go.
2. You then want to accelerate to roughly 60 km/h (37 mph)
3. Then you'd want to lift off the accelerator and turn sharply to the Left so the car starts to spin.
4. When the car has turned 90 degrees, (automatic) change into drive and accelerate. (manual) Clutch and change into first and accelerate.
5. As the car is about to finish the 180 degree turn, swiftly turn the steering wheel straight and accelerate.

Now you are ready to succesfully preform a J-turn

What vehicles to use

1990 Dodge Viper (above)

A rear-wheel-drive car is recomended, with 200hp+. Something like a 1990 Dodge Viper would be recomended at a price of around $55,000 second-hand in good condition. Or if you're on a budget, a Mazda RX-7 would also do the trick. The average price of one would be about $15,000-$30,000, but you could get one for as low as $3,000. That's if you want peak preformance, you could also do it in any car, as long as it's over 75hp.

"Handbrake Turn"

The handbrake turn is commonly used in most instances. It is used to turn very tight 90 degree turns at high speeds without braking. This maneuver is useable in most vehicles, as long as the vehicle can go 70kmh+, you'll be alright.

How to Preform

1. You want to accelerate to 50-70kmh and maintain that speed or decelerate to about 60kmh if you're already moving. (make sure you're in second or third gear if you're driving a manual)
2. When you're about 5 metres (16 feet) away from the corner, you'll want to pull the handbrake all the way and turn sharp (depending on the direction of the corner). If you're in a manual, you'd want to shift into first gear when you still have the handbrake engaged and you're just entering the turn.
3. Then when you are halfway through the turn, disengage the handbrake and accelerate hard. You'll also want to turn the wheel in the opposite direction at this stage. So if you're in a left turn, then you'd want to turn to the right and vise versa. Make sure you don't turn too hard.
4. Once you've completed the turn, you'll want to steer hard in the opposite direction that you're going. For example, if you're turning left, steer all the way to the right, and vise versa. Once the vehicle is just about straight with the road, turn the wheel straight.
Now you are ready to succesfully preform a handbrake turn.

What vehicles to use

2015 Ford mustang (above)

With a handbrke turn, it really doesn't matter which car you use for this, as long as it's got some kick. One vehicle that would be fun, would be a 2015 Ford Mustang GT. With it's high horsepower and uncontrolable nature, you could try to wrangle the beast. The prices can get to $33,000, but average at around $42,000. But any car can work, down to a Peugeot 206 , to a Lotus Elise , even to a Reliant robin (3-wheeler).

"Power Slide"

The power slide is basically, just drifting in a circle. There is no handbrake used and it's pretty simple. It's like a drift, but no handbrake You want to have a high horsepower car also.

How to Preform

"Circle Slide"

1. For this one, we'll basically be doing giant donuts. So you'll want to to start out near the middle of the circle, but no too close, give about 4 metres.
2. Then you want to start to accelerateand turn in the circle, maintaining the 4 metere distance. Bring your speed to about 60kmh, and try not to wheelspin yet.
3. Here, you'll want to floor it, and turn so that your car is sliding. Make sure to steer in the opposite direction.
4. One small tip, to make it easier, use a track that is wet, so you don't have to try so hard.
Now you are ready to succesfully preform a "circle slide".

"Corner Slide"

1. This one is extremely simple. so you'll want to accelerate to at least 70kmh, but you can do up to 125kmh, only if you feel comfortable.
2. When you get to the corner, you'll want to turn hard, and accelerte hard so that your wheels spin as you turn hard, but not too hard.
3. As you're going through the corner, you'll want to make sure you keep a consistant angle right through to the end.
4. As you've reached the end of the corner, straighten out, and drive off to the next corner.
Now you can succesfully preform a "Corner Slide".

What vehicles to use

For these slides, you'll want a car with above 375hp. The 2010 BMW M5 has 500hp, and would be ideal for a power slide. The price comes at around $30,000, but can get over $50,000. Most German preformance cars can do a power slide. You can do it in all drift cars. Drift cars are special cars designed for drifting. There is another link on this website to dirft cars.

"Drift"

The drift is when the car slides around a corner in a sideways fasion. it's very similar to a power slide, but it's preformed differently. There are special cars for this and you can mainly just use those cars for drifting.

How to preform

1. First you'll want to get up to speed, around 80kmh, similar speeds to the power slide, just a bit faster than the power slide.
2. Then, you'll want to pull the handbrake and turn hard in the direction that you're turning, so if you're turning right, then turn right and vise versa.
3. Just after you've pulled the handbrake, you'll want to disengage the handbrake and turn hard in the opposite direction.
4. The hardest part is maintaining the drift all the way until you reach the end of the corner and correct the turn itno a straight line and drive away.
Now you can successfully preform a "Drift".
